Singaraja Literary Festival (SLF) is a cultural initiative dedicated to documenting and revitalizing the intellectual wealth and literary traditions of Singaraja, Bali. Known for Gedong Kirtya, the first and oldest lontar manuscript library in Bali, Singaraja holds an invaluable literary heritage.
SLF aims to create spaces for dialogue, listening, and appreciation by exploring Balinese lontar manuscripts, hosting literacy discussions, cultural performances, and adapting literary works into theater and film. We believe literature is a bridge connecting the past, present, and future, enabling modern generations to deeply understand their cultural heritage.
To reignite pride in Singaraja as a city of historical and cultural heritage.
Each year, we organize the Singaraja Literary Festival, featuring:
Once the capital of the Lesser Sunda Islands, Singaraja has a long history as a center of intellectual and cultural development. From Buleleng Harbor, a historic gateway for trade, to Gedong Kirtya, home to ancient manuscripts, Singaraja remains a testament to the nation’s evolving culture and literacy.
Through the Singaraja Literary Festival, we are committed to amplifying this potential—not only for local communities but for the world.
